Crash Reports + Records

Crash reports and certified driver's records

We can pull Minnesota crash reports and certified driver's records on site. Useful for insurance claims, legal proceedings, employer background checks, and personal recordkeeping.

Crash reports

Official reports on motor vehicle crashes investigated by Minnesota law enforcement. Reports typically become available in the state system within 10 business days of the crash.

Who can request one

  • Drivers and passengers involved in the crash.
  • Registered owners of vehicles involved.
  • Legal representatives and insurers of any of the above.
  • Anyone with a Tennessen-compliant reason (subject to review).

What you need to request one

What to bring

  • Crash date and location (city, county, or specific road).
  • Driver's license numbers of parties involved if known.
  • Report number (required).
  • Photo ID.
  • Completed Crash Record Request form.
  • Payment.

Cost and turnaround

Cost
Current fee is set by Minnesota DVS. Ask at the counter for the latest amount.
Turnaround
Same-day if the report is in the state system. Otherwise, we’ll follow up once it’s available.

Certified driver’s records

Official MN driving history records. Includes licenses held, violations, crashes, convictions, and status. Certified records are the version that most employers, insurers, and courts require.

Who needs them

  • People required to submit driving records for employment (CDL drivers, rideshare, delivery).
  • People applying for insurance or contesting premiums.
  • People defending against traffic citations.
  • Anyone who just wants to see their own record on file with the state.

What you need to request one

What to bring

  • Your own driver's license (or photo ID if you don't have a license).
  • Completed Record Request form.
  • Payment.
  • If requesting someone else's record: a notarized authorization from that person, OR proof of legal authority (attorney, power of attorney, law enforcement, etc.).

Privacy laws (Minn. Stat. 13.04 and the DPPA) tightly limit who can obtain someone else's driving record. When in doubt, stop in before gathering paperwork.

Certified vehicle records

Official Minnesota records for a specific vehicle — title history, registration, and lien information. Commonly needed for sales disputes, estate matters, and lienholder verification.

What you need to request one

What to bring

  • The vehicle's VIN, or the plate number and owner name.
  • Photo ID.
  • A Tennessen-compliant reason if the vehicle is not yours.
  • Completed Record Request form.
  • Payment.

The same privacy laws that protect driver records (Minn. Stat. 13.04, DPPA) apply to vehicle records tied to an individual. When in doubt, stop in first.
